How long is each session?
Sessions are 60 minutes long.
What happens during a session?
At the beginning and end of each session, the Rolfer™ will evaluate your structure from the front, back and side profiles. This may include walking, gait analysis, diagnostics and range-of-motion exercises. Much of the work will be done on the table. Depending on the work, different positional strategies may be used. You may be lying on your side, stomach, back or in a seated position. Proper draping is used to allow access the area that is being worked with at the time.
Is it painful?
When working with adhered or shortened tissue, the sensations that come up can be described as ‘intense’. However, every client is different and may describe this level of intensity differently. In the past, Rolfing has had a reputation of being painful. The work has evolved greatly in the last 20 years. The comfort of the client is an important aspect of our work. If at anytime you feel that you need to hold your breath, tighten any part of your body, or go to an imaginary place to deal with that intensity, then the depth, pressure and pace of the work is too much. I consider the work a partnership with your comfort crucial to achieving our mutual goals.
What should I wear?
Clients are requested to wear loose fitting clothing. Gym attire, swim wear and underwear all work well. Please try to avoid sports bras or garments that tend to cover the spine as back work is part of every session.
